Mexico Sept. Jobless Rate Rises

Mexico's unemployment rate rose to 5.7% in September from 5.4% in August, the statistical office INEGI said on Friday. Economists had expected the jobless rate to be 5.35%. However, the jobless rate was smaller than a 6.41% recorded a year ago.

The jobless rate for men dropped to 5.7% from 6% in August, while the jobless rate for women fell to 5.69% from 7.07% last month, the agency said. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.28% in September, up from 5.17% in the previous month.

The underemployment rate was 8.1% in September, down from 9% recorded in the same month last year. The underemployment rate was 8.7% in August.
